Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, has hit back at the Nigeria Football
Federation over the allegation of submitting his curriculum vitae to the
Ivoirian authorities for their national team job.
Keshi accused the NFF of deliberately igniting crisis where there was none since the issue at hand was normal in football transfers. The NFF had verbally queried the coach to explain why his name emerged on the list of coaches penciled down for the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire job. In a swift response, Keshi said he never applied for the job and was shocked that his name appeared on the list sent out by the Ivoirians.
Though the Ivoirian FA later revealed that it was the agent of Keshi who applied for the job, the former Eagles skipper stressed that nothing of such happened. “My agent cannot apply for a job without my knowledge.
I never signified interest and I have a job at hand which is huge and what is happening now is a distraction of sort,” the coach said. Keshi however expressed surprise over the stand of his employers, the NFF, on the issue, stressing that the football house had “other motives” The coach added; “In football transfers all over the world, a lot of things happen. Names come up here and there. We all saw Rafa Benitez in Napoli being tipped to take over the job in Real Madrid.
He finished the season and left Napoli for Real. “I just took this job, I never showed interest in any other job and maybe someone out there was mischievous but certainly not my agent. “We have so much work to do and rather than putting heads together for future games, we are taking about Keshi seeking another job.”
The Eagles head coach appeared before the NFF Disciplinary committee in Abuja on Tuesday.
